Loestrin is a very safe contraceptive pill, consisting of the active ingredients, norethisterone and ethinyl estradiol, in very low doses. That's why this product is called a micro-pill.

What is Loestrin?

Loestrin is a hormonal combination in low doses. The contraceptive contains the luteal hormone or progesterone, called noresthisteron, and the estrogen, called ethinylestradiol. This contraceptive pill is an ovulation-inhibitor with ethinylestradiol, and is referred to as a mini-pill, since the female body is minimally burdened with hormones, and its intake even leads to improvement in menstruation disorders. The Loestrin reviews are quite positive, and the product is widely prescribed worldwide, as it is a safe contraceptive.

The effect and dosage of Loestrin

Loestrin is a popular micro-pill, available in two different dosages. Both variants are well-tolerated because they either contain 20 micrograms ethinylestradiol with 1000 micrograms norethisterone, or, 20 micrograms ethinylestradiol with 1500 micrograms norethisterone. The product is offered in different dosages so that it can be tailored to the body‘s individual needs. The lower-dose preparation is used widely to treat acne, but generally both Loestrin medications are used for reliable contraception.

The active ingredient, ethinylestradiol, inhibits ovulation and suppresses the hormone which induces ovulation. More specifically, this substance prevents the pituitary gland forming the hormone, gonadotropin, which normally triggers ovulation. Ethinylestradiol, deceives the female body by simulating the condition of pregnancy, in which the gonadotropin hormone is naturally inhibited.

Norethisteron adjusts the consistency of the uterine lining, so that a potentially fertilized egg cannot settle there, and also affects the mucus in the uterine canal, so that the sperm cannot penetrate. In addition, this substance causes the egg to pass through the fallopian tube so fast that there is no time for fertilization.

How to take the contraceptive pill Loestrin

The pill is taken once a day with water – always at the same time of day. Loestrin is taken for a period of 21 days and then there is a break of seven days when menstruation takes place. On day eight, a new package is started.
