Wegovy pill price by dose
The Wegovy pill cost in the UK varies by dose and provider. At the private providers checked on 29 September 2026, standard advertised prices ranged from £87.97 for the 1.5 mg starting dose to £229 for the 25 mg maintenance dose.
If you are considering Wegovy tablets for weight management, this guide compares private prices, NHS access, Wegovy injections, eligibility and safety. Wegovy comes as an injection pen and an oral tablet, with the Wegovy pill currently accessed mainly through private healthcare channels.[1, 2]
The Wegovy pill is available in the UK for weight management. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved oral semaglutide on 11 June 2026. It is a prescription-only weight loss medication. Wegovy tablets can be obtained by private prescription, including through regulated online doctor services after an online consultation and clinical assessment, but not currently through the NHS. [1, 2]
How much are Wegovy pills? Wegovy tablets vary in price by provider and dose. Across the private providers checked, the standard 1.5 mg starting dose ranged from about £88 to £129, while the 25 mg maintenance dose ranged from about £188 to £229. Promotional starter prices can be lower; offers checked included prices from £69, subject to eligibility and the provider's terms.

You may see Wegovy pill costs quoted as £70 to £200 per month. That range captures some current prices but not the whole market. With introductory offers, the 1.5 mg dose can start at approximately £70 to £100 per month, although standard prices checked extended to £129. The 25 mg maintenance dose can cost around £180 to £200 at lower-priced providers, but the checked range extended to £229.
Prices were checked across four UK private providers on 29 September 2026 and can change. Higher doses generally cost more. Private prices may also include clinical assessment, prescriber review, delivery or clinical support, so compare what is included as well as the advertised price.
Using one month each at 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg followed by nine months at 25 mg, the checked standard schedules totalled roughly £2,046 to £2,448 for 12 months. This is illustrative: dose increases, offers and the treatment plan can change what Wegovy tablets cost annually.
What affects the total Wegovy pill cost?
Dose is one of the clearest cost factors. The dose escalation schedule normally increases Wegovy pill dosages from 1.5 mg to 4 mg, 9 mg and then the 25 mg maximum maintenance dose, with at least one month at each level. A lower dose may therefore cost less than the highest maintenance dose, but a prescriber may also keep someone on a lower dose for longer if that is clinically appropriate. [1, 2]
Provider pricing also matters. The same Wegovy pill dose can have a different Wegovy tablet price elsewhere, and introductory discounts may make the first order look cheaper. The cheapest Wegovy pill at the start may not remain cheapest over a full weight loss journey.
The advertised price can reflect different service components. A weight loss service may include consultation, prescription review, delivery or follow-up clinical support. Check the renewal price and what is included before comparing the total cost in the UK.
Many private medical insurance policies in the UK do not cover weight-loss treatment such as Wegovy, although cover varies. AXA Health, for example, excludes weight-loss treatment and describes this as consistent with other UK private medical insurers. Check your own policy before assuming Wegovy is covered. [3]
Prices can change, but the checked provider information does not establish demand or supply as the cause.
Wegovy pill treatment is intended as a long-term weight loss treatment for weight management, not a short fixed course. The UK patient leaflet does not describe a withdrawal syndrome. In the STEP 1 extension, people regained around two-thirds of their previous weight loss during the year after stopping weekly injectable semaglutide 2.4 mg; this evidence comes from Wegovy injections, not the tablet. [4, 5]
Wegovy pill vs injection: cost comparison
Is the Wegovy pill cheaper than injection? Not necessarily; it depends on the dose and provider. Wegovy tablets and Wegovy injections contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but they use different doses and routines. Wegovy tablets are taken once daily on an empty stomach after at least eight hours of fasting, with up to 120 mL of water, followed by at least 30 minutes before food, drink or other medication. Wegovy injections are taken once weekly. [2, 6]
At the private services checked, starting tablet and injection prices were broadly similar, but higher-dose prices diverged. Wegovy injections have their own dose ladder, and a tablet dose is not directly interchangeable with a current injection dose. The cost of Wegovy injections also varies by dose. [6]
Both formulations support weight loss, but clinical trials do not predict an individual's result. In OASIS 4, average weight loss with oral semaglutide 25 mg was 13.6% of body weight at week 64 versus 2.2% with placebo using the treatment-policy estimate. The trial-product estimate was higher, around 16.6%.
The New England Journal of Medicine report distinguishes these estimands; the New England Journal of Medicine figures should not be presented as one guaranteed average weight loss. [7]
Can I lose 20 pounds in 3 months on Wegovy? Some people may lose weight by that amount, but the clinical trials do not establish that three-month result for an individual. Weight loss depends on starting body weight, dose escalation, adherence, tolerability and other factors. [2, 7]
If you are comparing the tablet with Mounjaro or other weight loss tablets, cost should not be the only factor. Weight management medicines differ in active ingredients, dosing and suitability. A healthcare professional can review your medical history, goals, and any Wegovy pill side effects.

Is the Wegovy pill available on the NHS?
No. As of 29 September 2026, the Wegovy pill is not currently available through the NHS. The MHRA says NHS access will follow the established process, including evaluation by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). [1]
That means there is currently no NHS Wegovy pill price to compare with private self-pay prices. Existing NICE guidance covers semaglutide for weight management within specialist weight management services, but it relates to the previously appraised injectable treatment rather than confirmed NHS prescribing guidelines for the new oral Wegovy tablets.[8]
For now, Wegovy tablets are available in the UK mainly through private prescription services and online consultations. NHS access may change, so check current National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance. [1, 8]
Who can get the Wegovy pill?
The UK licence covers adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or above, or 27 to below 30 kg/m² with at least one weight-related comorbidity. These weight related health conditions can include high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease or prediabetes. The Wegovy pill is used alongside a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. [1, 2]
Wegovy is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Its active ingredient, semaglutide, mimics GLP-1, a naturally occurring hormone involved in appetite and glucose control. This natural hormone pathway affects glucose regulation, although Wegovy is not prescribed simply to prevent blood sugar spikes. Clinical trials show weight loss varies with factors including starting weight and dose tolerance. [1, 2, 7]
Private prescribing still requires a clinical assessment. A prescriber should review your medical history and other medication. If you already use another weight loss treatment, do not combine or switch medicines yourself; discuss your current injection dose and treatment plan with the prescriber. [2]
Side effects and safety
Wegovy can cause side effects including nausea and diarrhoea. Other very common gastrointestinal side effects include vomiting, constipation, stomach pain and indigestion; headache and feeling tired are also listed. These side effects may be more noticeable when treatment starts or after dose increases, and the UK patient leaflet says gastrointestinal side effects usually go away over time as the body adjusts. [1, 2, 4]
Other reported Wegovy pill side effects include dizziness, gallstones, hair loss, changes in taste, low blood pressure and a fast heartbeat. Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) can occur, particularly in people with diabetes who also use insulin or a sulphonylurea. [2, 4]
The SmPC reports no clinically relevant change in exposure to the oral contraceptive pill components ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel with semaglutide. However, vomiting or severe diarrhoea can affect the effectiveness of oral contraception generally, so follow the instructions for your contraceptive and seek medical advice if this occurs. [2, 4]
Side effects vary in severity, and some side effects need urgent attention. Seek urgent medical attention for severe stomach pain that does not go away, particularly if it spreads to the back, because this can be a symptom of acute pancreatitis. Serious side effects can include an allergic reaction with swelling or difficulty breathing. [2, 4]
If you miss a daily tablet, skip the missed dose and take the normal dose the next day. Do not take a double dose. Taking Wegovy pills correctly, including the empty stomach routine, matters for absorption. [2, 4]
Who should not take the Wegovy pill?
The formal UK contraindication in the Wegovy tablet SmPC is hypersensitivity to semaglutide or an excipient. Wegovy should no be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding and should be discontinued at least two months before a planned pregnancy; caution is also advised in people with delayed gastric emptying (gastroparesis), a history of pancreatitis and certain diabetes-related eye problems. [2, 4]
The UK SmPC does not list a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer as a formal contraindication, so UK prescribing should follow the current UK product information. [2]
Tell the prescriber about all other medication you use, especially insulin, sulphonylureas, warfarin-type anticoagulants or levothyroxine. Wegovy is a prescription only medication and should be supplied only after appropriate assessment. Prescription only medicines should not be chosen on price alone. The same applies if you are considering Wegovy vs Mounjaro because side effects or treatment cost are influencing your choice. [2]
Frequently asked questions about Wegovy pill cost
The answers below cover common questions about Wegovy pill cost, daily treatment, switching, prescriptions and provider pricing.
How much does the Wegovy pill cost per day?
How much does the Wegovy pill cost per day depends on dose and provider. Using the standard price ranges checked and a 30-tablet pack, the cost is roughly £2.93 to £4.30 per day at 1.5 mg and £6.27 to £7.63 per day at the 25 mg maintenance dose. Introductory offers can temporarily reduce the pill cost.
How much will the new Wegovy pill cost over a year? Under the standard escalation assumption used above, the private provider schedules checked worked out at about £2,046 to £2,448 for 12 months. This is not a personal quote and may change if someone remains on a lower dose for longer.
Can I switch from the Wegovy injection to the tablet?
Yes, some people can switch from Wegovy injections to Wegovy tablets, but the prescriber should decide the dose and timing. The UK SmPC states that someone using semaglutide injection 2.4 mg once weekly can transition to Wegovy tablets 25 mg once daily, starting one week after the last injection. [2]
Switching cannot be predicted simply from milligram numbers because oral semaglutide has more variable absorption. Do not choose a Wegovy pill dose from a conversion chart without clinical advice. [2]
Is the Wegovy pill the same as Rybelsus?
No. Both contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but they are different branded products with different licensed uses and doses. Wegovy tablets are licensed for weight management, whereas Rybelsus is licensed for adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes. [2, 9]
That means Rybelsus should not be treated as a cheaper substitute for the Wegovy pill.
Do I need a prescription to buy the Wegovy pill online?
Yes. Wegovy tablets are prescription only medicines in the UK. Where can I buy Wegovy pills in the UK? Wegovy tablets can be requested through regulated private providers, including online doctor services, but a prescriber must review your health information and decide whether treatment is suitable. [1, 2]
The General Pharmaceutical Council review of weight management services emphasises robust clinical assessments, independent verification of BMI, clear communication and accessible support. [10]
Do first-month discounts apply at every dose?
No. Introductory discounts and subscription offers have their own terms and may apply only to new patients, selected strengths or particular payment plans. Prices vary by provider and may include introductory offers, so compare the standard advertised price as well as the promotional Wegovy pill price.
A low first-month advertised price can be useful, but the cheapest Wegovy pill at the starting dose may not remain the cheapest at the highest maintenance dose.
How should I compare Wegovy pill providers safely?
When comparing weight loss tablets, look beyond the Wegovy tablet price. Check that the pharmacy is registered with the GPhC, that prescribing is carried out by an appropriate UK-registered professional, that the provider verifies relevant information such as BMI, and that there is a clear route to clinical support. [10]
Compare what the advertised price includes, delivery charges, repeat reviews and later-dose costs. Do not use an online doctor that bypasses a meaningful clinical assessment or prescription requirements. [10]
